Smoke from the Nova Scotia fires is currently affecting Westchester and Putnam County. The smoke is causing a haze and odor in our area. According to Carmel Police Department, NY, Westchester and Putnam 911 operators are being flooded with calls regarding the outside smell of smoke.

“A plume of Canadian wildfire smoke is forecast to drift over the area Tuesday and could lead to decreased air quality,” said the National Weather Service’s New York office on Twitter.

Officials recommend limiting outdoor exercise when the air is smoky and keeping the air cool and clean indoors, especially for at-risk individuals. Particulate matter, a mixture of solid and liquid pollutants transferred through wildfire smoke, can cause respiratory issues, said the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

As always, if you need to report an emergency, do not hesitate to call 911.
