Rope Rescue Drill

Last night, members of MFVFD took advantage of the slightly warmer weather and did something a little different for our Wednesday night drill. Members were escorted to Red Mills Park Trail where they were instructed to prepare for a rope rescue.

In order to get to the scene, our members had to make a short hike through the trail. Once on scene, they were divided into two groups. Lieutenant Dwyer and FF Loprieno explained to group one, how to identify secure anchor points within the real world, how to create a rope rescue lowering system, as well as how to convert that system from lowering to hauling, and then finally how to pre-rig the stokes basket.

Lieutenant Kelly demonstrated techniques of repealing, attending the litter in a rope rescue lower and haul to group two. Once the members located the victim, EMT Vitanza went over patient evaluation and packaging.

The purpose of this drill was for members to be put slightly out of their comfort zone to conduct a rope rescue, where group 1 and group 2 were able to work in conjunction with each other to remove the victim from the bottom of an embankment.
