Tones for the Putnam Valley Fire Dept. went off around 10:30am reporting a serious one car accident on Wood Street just in from Secor Rd. Minutes later, Mahopac Falls Fire was dispatched to assist with extrication and a call for the helicopter was put out. Units from Putnam County Sheriffs' Office, Carmel Police and New York State Police, along with Medics 3 and 5, descended on the accident site. Putnam Valley Fire Chief Larry Cobb took the role of Incident Command and 2nd Asst. Chief Frank DiMarco took Scene Safety and Operations. Putnam Valley Fire Fighters and Mahopac Falls Fire Fighter/EMTs teamed up to extricate the patient in the quickest and safest way. With the helicopter waiting safely on the bridge over the Taconic Parkway, Fire Police from both departments detoured local road traffic away from the scene. With extrication complete, the patient, suffering serious lower bodily trauma, was turned over to the crew of Medic 5 to transport to the waiting helicopter.
