The Application Process

Each potential member must complete and submit the MFVFD Membership Application form. The application includes personal information, lists of references and work experience, and information for background and arson checks.

Membership applications are accepted anytime, however, potential member applications are processed four times a year and are due by the 2nd Tuesday in March, June, September, and December.

The membership committee will contact you to schedule an interview. 

At the April, July, October, or January meetings, the membership committee will present their findings from your interview to the membership, and you'll be voted on as a probationary member. A member of the membership committee will contact you with the results of the membership vote after the meeting.

Pending a passing vote, background check, and department physical you'll then be required to attend the May, August, November, or February monthly meeting (2nd Wednesday of the month) to be sworn in as a probationary member.

After being sworn in you are officially a probationary member, and you will begin your 1-3 years probationary period following the completion of your firefighter/EMS orientation program. 

Minimum Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old to apply. Those aged 16-18 years old must have their parents' or guardians' written consent and must have a parent or guardian attend their interview.

You must complete the MFVFD application, schedule an interview with the membership committee, be voted in, pass the department physical, and pass a background check.

You must reside or work in the Mahopac Falls Fire District for at least nine (9) months of the year.

You must not be convicted of arson or have a conviction requiring registration as a sex offender.

New members will be considered on probation for a period no less than one (1) year not to exceed there (3) years.

You must complete the in-house training requirements prior to participating in emergency calls.

Removal from probationary status requires that the aforementioned requirements be fulfilled along with the probationary requirements of their membership classification. 

Probationary members must meet the following by-laws:

- Successfully complete the NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 Certification and the NYS Fire Fighter Survival Course, or the New York State Emergency Medical Technician Course and the NIMS ICS 100 and 700.
