The Little Mack

October 7th, 1937, New York State issued a certificate of incorporation to the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. However, a fire department without a fire truck is somewhat lacking and this is just the problem that faced the founding fathers of MFVFD.
At that time, a committee was formed and an agreement was entered into with Mack Truck Corporation of Allantown, PA- who at that time was heading a firetruck division for the purchase of a new Type 45 Pumper.
Finally in February 1939, the wait ended with the delivery of a 1939 Mack F-45 Pumper capable of an industry leading 500 gallon per minute pump capacity. The Type 45 could also carry 150 gallons of water in it's booster tank, as well as 1500' of 2-1/2" hose in the bed. A 24' wooden ladder, bright spot light, siren and red light rounded out the most modern piece of firefighting equipment of its day.
The Little Mack, as its known today, built with unrivaled dependability is still on duty as the department emblem of pride and can be seen ar fire headquarters, as well as most area parades in the Putnam County area.
