| This morning at approximately 3am, the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire on Orchard Road in Mahopac. Upon arrival, crews were met with a basement fire and heavy smoke throughout the home. Firefighters worked alongside our neighboring departments to quickly bring the fire under control, protect surrounding property, and ensure the scene was safe. We are grateful that all occupants were able to safely evacuate the residence before firefighters arrived. This incident is another reminder of the importance of working smoke alarms. Thank you to all of the firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement, dispatchers, and utility crews who worked together on this incident. Responding agencies included the Putnam Valley vol Fire Department, Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department, Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association, Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Putnam County Medic 3, and Putnam County Fire Investigation Team. Carmel Volunteer Fire Department was on standby at our headquarters. Mahopac Falls units have returned to service. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. |
