On Wednesday March 30th, 2016 the Mahopac Falls Vol. Fire Dept. was dispatched to 591 Route 6N, Tompkins Mahopac Bank for a brush fire next to the bank. Initial reports indicated the fire was possibly igniting the structure. Quick thinking by bank employees extinguished the blaze with fire extinguishers knocking down the main body of the fire before FD arrival. Assistant Chief Brian Sacher arrived on scene and established command. 19-2-1 and 19-3-1 were on scene within 5 minutes of the call and extinguished the remaining hot spots. Mulch had ignited next to the bank torching the bushes and causing the siding to melt on the side of the structure. Crews checked for extension into the building with the thermal imaging camera and deemed no hazard. Crews picked up within 20 minutes and the bank was back open for business.
