Mahopac Falls Vol. Fire Department Dive Team was dispatched mutual aid to the Cold Spring Fire District approximately 4:45pm Tuesday afternoon for reports of a missing swimmer in the Hudson River. After speaking with witnesses and Cold Spring Fire personnel, it was determined a male subject, approx 45 years of age, was swimming 150' off the shore line when he went under and never resurfaced. A second dive team was already being requested from Cronomer Valley as MFVFD was arriving on scene, and a request for Yorktown Fire Dive Team was sent out. Multiple Marine & Aviation units were conducting search patterns as the two dive teams assembled and prepared to enter the water. 6 Divers from Mahopac Falls & 3 Divers from Cronomer Valley created a search line and walked parallel to the shore line, due to the water ranging in depth from 4 to 6 feet deep. Yorktown Dive Team arrived at the Cold Spring Boat Club and were launching their marine units with sonar equipment, to conduct search patterns south of the incident location. The victim was found by Mahopac Falls Divers and was brought to shore, unfortunately he was pronounced on scene- then turned over to the Putnam County Sheriff Department where the investigating is still on going. While this wasn't the outcome we all hoped for, it was a great opportunity for multiple agencies from 3 counties and New York State to work together on and bring closure to the victim's family.
