It all started on the evening of Saturday April 16th, when a call went out for a brush fire in the area of Scout Hill Road. This would be the start of many brush fires for the following dry week. Chief Boyle and Asst. Chief Sacher checked the area of Scout Hill Road and were informed by witnesses that the fire was in the power lines near the Mahopac Falls, Putnam Valley border. After investigation it was determined the best access for the fire was in the rear of 17 Richard Drive, Putnam Valley. Firefighters from Mahopac Falls and Putnam Valley battled the 1 acre blaze, a half mile into the woods, tackling the tough terrain. Due to darkness and no life threats, extinguishment was called off and firefighters would return the following morning to continue fighting the fire. Asst Chief Sacher and Neary returned to the scene Sunday morning. Gators from Putnam Valley FD and Continental Village were used to bring equipment and water to the fire. In all the fire was approx. 2 acres and was contained by noon on Sunday afternoon with help from the NYS Forest Ranger.
